Conti St. Development

The iconic towers of downtown Houston often assert themselves as individual monuments, mute to their neighbors and failing to generate any connection or real public space once their inhabitants escape the building envelope. This project reverses that individuality, presenting a family of towers that are each distinct but tied together with formal and material characteristics.

This strategy allows the site to be established as a large public space surrounded by clusters of interconnected towers, and the modulated public space found at the ground plane is mimicked by the unique opportunity of the larger connecting elements between the towers. At the ground plane the building appears as large massing without individual character, but individual tower forms emerge as one progresses vertically.
